Cel-a-brate good times! Come on!

Tammy and Elizabeth scuttled around the American Legion hall preparing for the party. They reminded one of atoms bouncing around without any real purpose. However, in their classically disorganized way, they got the room ready in time to sit and have a drink before the guests arrived.

"Do ya think he'll like it?" Elizabeth asked.
"Yeah man. He'll love it" Tammy replied.
"I hope so. I just wanted to do something for him cuz he's done so much for me, ya know? I don't know where I'd be without him. And even if you have had so many birthdays you've lost count, you should still have a party."

Elizabeth looked around the room at the streamers, balloons, sparkly center pieces, multicolored table clothes, and the eight foot long banner on one wall that said "Happy Birthday Abe!" and for the first time wondered if it was too much. She quickly got lost in her thoughts (which was extrordinarily easy for her to do) and only stopped daydreaming when she heard the door open with a series of bangs. It was Philip. He was carrying several pieces of DJ equipment and a large suitcase containing a very wide variety of music since no one was quite sure what kind of music Abe listened to. Tammy and Elizabeth rushed over to help the overloaded Philip.
"There's a couple more things in the car." He mumbled.
"I got it." said Tammy.
Elizabeth helped Philip take his things to the table in the corner and set them up. They set up in akward silence glancing and grinning at each other frequently. After 5 months of dating things should have gotten easier, but with both trying to accomodate the other and not step on toes, the dance was slow and tenuous at best.
Tammy returned with the first guest right behind her.
"Mr. Glass! I'm so glad you could make it. You can set yer present on that table there. There's punch and snacks over there. Please, make yerself comfortable and let me know if I can get you anything."
Philip's equipment was soon set up and the music started as the rest of the guests trickled in.
Abe and Alisa came together. As he entered, Abe took in the spectacle and bowed his head for a moment while pinching the bridge of his nose. He looked at Alisa who gave him a knowing smile and a pat on the arm. He shook his head, put on a smile and headed for Elizabeth.

"You really didn't have to do all this, my dear." he said in a voice only Elizabeth could mistake for sincerity.
"I know, but I wanted to do somethin fer you," she said with a smile a toothpaste ad would be jealous of "Happy Birthday!"
Eric Riven approached them and remarked "This is quite the event. Happy birthday Mr. Freeman."
"Thank you for coming Mr. Riven."
"It looks like pretty much everbody's here. You'll have to excuse me. I got some hostessin' duties to attend to." Elizabeth said as she headed for a near by door. A couple minutes later the lights went out and Philip began playing "Happy Birthday". The guests began to sing along as Elizabeth pushed a cart containing a 2 foot tall, 3 layered cake with a fire hazard worth of candles covering it through the door and toward Abe. Abe constantly wondered what was wrong with this girl he'd found hiding out in someone's barn and more importantly what was wrong with the person who chose her of all people to turn into a vampire. Her temperment would never be cut out for vampiric life and he had tried to help her learn what she needed to know and shield her from the worst of it, but he was begining to think she needed to know a few more harsh realities. She had nothing but the best intentions so he smiled and went along with things for tonight, but he made a mental note that tomorrow night he would have to make her understand that the world wasn't going to be as nice to her as she was to it. He blew out the candles and everyone cheered.

The party continued and slowly wound down as people went off to conduct other business. Abe took his presents home without opening them. Tammy and Alisa helped Elizabeth clean up.
"Do y'all think Abe liked it?"
"Of course." Alisa said reassuringly.
"I hope so." Elizabeth replied.

It's just like the movies...

Elizabeth drove home from the gathering, probably a bit too fast, but she was too distracted to notice. The white plastic box in the seat next to her had taken on a life and personality of it's own. It's contents were too valuable, too fleeting. She pulled into the driveway of the compound, tucked the box under her arm, grabbed the grocery sack from the floor and ran inside, giggling.
She opened the door to her room, looked around and frowned. She really needed to learn to keep this place cleaner. She quickly darted around the room picking up dirty clothes and throwing them into the hamper while she talked to the coons. She told them that tonight was a special night and she needed them to understand. She straightened piles of magazines and in the process found the tape Philip had made for her. She put it in and played it for the thousandth time. She pulled the pink flowered comforter up on the bed and arranged the flower shaped pillows and stuffed animals in what she thought was a "designer" way.
After taking the coons out to the back yard and doing a little last minute straightening, Elizabeth opened the box and laid two red flowers on the bed. She pulled several pints of ice cream out of the grocery sack and set them on the desk. Just then the knock she'd been expecting came to the door. She turned off the tape and took a deep breath before opening the door.
    "Hey Philip, come on in."
Awkwardly, they sat on the bed, both trying to accommodate the other, neither realizing the other doesn't want accommodation. They took the flowers and ate them. Elizabeth, having done this before knew what to expect and watched Philip intently. She welcomed the beautiful rush and reveled in seeing Philip experience this for the first time. Elizabeth's heart is always on her sleeve, but tonight in particular she made no attempt to hide her emotions. She smiled widely and bounced up from her seat with a spoon in one hand and grabbed a pint of ice cream without looking at what kind it was. She spooned out a huge bite and let it melt in her mouth with her eyes closed.
"Don't you just love ice cream?"
The two fell to talking for quite some time. As often happened with them, the conversation turned to their previous lives and how much they missed it. They discussed the future and the things they will miss out on. They both got quiet as they contemplated all of this. Philip looked at Elizabeth in a way that only one person had ever looked at her before. That boy got the tar beat out of him by her brother and until now she had never understood why. Her heart fluttered, her cheeks flushed even more red than they'd been before. Her mind raced. She had no idea what to do, she had no experience with this. As he began to lean in, she closed her eyes and decided to let Philip figure out what to do. Tenderly, tentatively, he pressed his lips her hers. She felt like her heart would beat right out of her chest. She wanted the moment to last forever, and indeed that's what it felt like. Philip pulled back with a shy smile as Elizabeth sat, dumbfounded but elated. Once she managed to restart her train of thinking, she reached over and put a hand on each side of Philip's face and pulled his lips to her own. She kissed him long and hard, running her fingers into his hair and down his back as her did the same to her. Elizabeth felt like she was floating. Eventually, but all too soon for Elizabeth, dawn approached.
"Can you stay here today?" she asked. "What happens next isn't fun at all and it can be kinda scary. I'd feel much better if you was to stay with me." She led him to the bathroom explaining on the way that they'd need to sleep in the bathtub so there was less to clean up in the evening. The unpleasantness that followed, Elizabeth thought, was way more than worth it for what had happened tonight.

OOC POST

  • May. 14th, 2008 at 10:45 PM

I feel compelled to make an out of character post but since I don't have an ooc journal and have no intention of making one, here it is.

First, big kudos and glitter hearts to everyone who's been showing off all their creative-ism-ness. I love seeing it all and it's huge inspiration to me to do my own arting. Really, I mean it. It's AWESOME. Keep it up.

On the other hand there's a small part of me that's going "Dammit, stop being so awesome. I can't keep up." Again, this part is small and I don't really mean it. It's just there and it wanted to poke it's ugly little head out of it's hidey hole.

Running the gauntlet?

  • May. 2nd, 2008 at 1:17 PM

Night falls on a quiet backyard. In the moonlight a dog agility course is visible. A raccoon slinks out of the newly installed doggie door in the back door. Behind her two more adult raccoons and five babies tumble through the door. They file onto the lawn and the first turns to the others, sits up on her haunches and begins to chitter at them. The adults seem to be listening as the babies wrestle with each other and run small laps around the adults. The first raccoon heads for the set of weave polls and demonstrates how to run back and forth between them. The adults follow the lead, doing it nearly perfectly. The babies follow along simply because that's where mom is, though a couple of them do make an attempt to mimic the adults. This scene continues with the other obstacles, a tunnel, an A-frame, a teeter totter, a few jumps (set low to accommodate the stature of the users). Occasionally the mother growls a chastisement at the young ones for getting under foot. The first raccoon returns to the house via the doggie door and a few minutes later a muscular young woman with long brown hair emerges with a bowl full of grapes. She gives one to each raccoon, cooing and praising them as she goes along. She sets the bowl down and lays on her back in the grass. She picks up one of the babies and sets her on her chest. She scratches the kit behind the ear and says "My God, this has been the most amazin' week of my life. I really gotta go to Chicago more often. We should figure out some way to thank Grace and Terry for ever-thing they done. I gotta get me more of those flowers. And some for Philip, too.

"You guys are doin' so well." At this point the rest of the babies attempt to climb on the woman, not wanting to be left out. "Oh my god, you guys are so silly. Come on. Let's get you back in the house." The woman rises and returns to the house followed by all the raccoons without another word.

OOC: Carthians, there is now a dog agility course set up in the back yard of the compund and one of those lockable doggie doors installed in the wall next to the back door.

OMG! Sooooooo Cute!

  • Apr. 2nd, 2008 at 12:40 PM

I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later. I really thought it wouldn't since I died. I figured that part of my life was over. But, now... There's this boy. He's sooooooo cute. I never felt like this before. I seen boys and thought they was cute before but cuz of all the travlin' I did, I really never let myself think it could go anywhere. I mean, it's real hard to have a boyfriend when you've met 'em once and they live halfway across the country and you have no idea when you might be seein' 'em again. But now that I'm in one place I can think about doin' more than just lookin'. So he asked me out and I said yes. Now my tummy's all fluttery and my brain keeps goin' round in circles and I can't stop dancin'. I'm so nervous to make this date work out. I hope I don't say the wrong thing or anything. I don't know what to do on a date. I'll have to call Tammy and get some advice. She goes on a lotta dates.

And the travlin' is a whole other issue weighin' on my mind lately. It's really hard to not pick up and move every coupla weeks when you've never known anything else. Goin' on these short trips like this weekend kinda helps but I been real antsy lately. And there's one trip in particular I been wantin' to make real bad. I know the circus is gonna be near here next month and I miss everyone so bad. I wanna go see 'em but I know I shouldn't. It's best if I just let 'em be and let 'em think I'm dead. Maybe I could go in lookin' wolfie and hide and just sneek a peek. Ya know, make sure they are all ok. It's too bad I don't know that hidey thing other people can do. But I wanna do so much more than just see 'em. I wanna talk to 'em. And run around with my brothers and listen to mamma sing and go back to the way things used to be. On one hand this is best time of my life and on the other it's the worst.

Babies!

  • Feb. 13th, 2008 at 6:11 PM

So my raccoons, Stewart and Dania, and getting really good at doin' tricks. Stewart can do all sorts of stuff like jumpin' through a hoop and walkin' a tight rope. I just started teaching him how to ride a skateboard. His legs are a little short, but he's doing pretty good so far. Dania is keepin' up with the basic trainin'. Comin' and sittin' and whatnot, but her belly's so big it's about all she can do. She also gets real tired real fast so the sessions gotta stay pretty short. But she likes to have her belly rubbed and today I could feel the babies movin' around inside. She's still got a ways to go before she gives birth but she's so big, I think I'm gonna have a whole passel o' critters runnin' around.

New beginnings

  • Feb. 11th, 2008 at 8:50 PM

So I was in Turnersburg a couple months ago when all that crazy stuff happened and it really made me think. I even said while I was there "There's enough people here that can take care of the crazy stuff. Why should I worry about it?" But then they killed a kid and set an orphanage and a hospital on fire and hurt a bunch of other people. And I realized that's why I need to worry about it. The people in charge are psycho. I never claimed to be real smart or nothin', but damn. What the hell were they thinkin'? And our priscus has been missin' for months, so I stepped up to the plate. I got no idea what I'm doin' but I'm gonna do the best I can and I damn sure ain't gonna kill nobody. I only been doin this priscus thing a couple a weeks and it's already been hard work. But it's good hard.

Retro is soooo modern

  • Sep. 24th, 2007 at 7:09 PM

Saturday night us Gangrel hosted a 60s themed party. It was awesome. Abe found a bunch of his old records in storage and I ran a game of Clue which Kate won. The prize was sea monkeys. Klaus was the real hit of the party though with his interpretive scavenger hunt. It was tons of fun. Dr. Colburn was his usual weird self. He pretended to be "The Man" and drafted people. All in all I think a good time was had by all. I can't wait to do it again. Oh, and Samara's brownies were awesome. There was even a mini protest against the war. I just wish there could have been more dancing. I was looking forward to dancing to all the groovy 60s music but I was the only one who even tried. Maybe next time.

Kids camp

  • Aug. 31st, 2007 at 4:43 PM

So I asked the baroness what I could do to help out the city. Being new in town I want to try to make it feel like home and I figured this would be a good way. She suggested I run a summer camp for kids who can't go out in the sun. I think it's a great idea. I just don't know where to start. I love kids and there was talk of getting horses for them to ride, which would be awesome. And once it's up and running there's all kinds of things I could teach them like acrobats and clowning. But how do you start a whole camp?

ME!

  • Aug. 30th, 2007 at 9:27 PM

I should tell y'all a little somethin about myself. I grew up in the circus. My dad is an elephant trainer and my mom is the bearded lady. But I think her real claim to fame is her voice. She can sing beautifully. She also home-schooled me and still works with my five brothers. My four oldest brothers haven't really found their place yet so they mostly do odd jobs like cleaning and moving things. My youngest brother is only 9 but he's real smart. He's already workin on eighth grade work with mom. She hardly knows what to do with him. I used to play on the trapeze when I was still there. I learned from Dania and Constantin Vladu. They were like a second set of parents to me. I only got a couple chances to see other trapeze acts, but from what I saw, the Vladus were really good in comparison. I also learned Romanian from them. It was hilarious to watch them fight and even better after I figured out what they were saying. I don't regret my upbringing but as soon as I was old enough to figure out not everybody traveled around with circuses, I started wanting out. So much traveling is exhausting and I just wanted to stay in one place for more than two weeks for once. So on my 18th birthday I decided to leave. So here I am settled down in DeKalb, trying to make the best of the situation I've found myself in. Here's hoping things turn out great.
